Acne Scar Can Result From Manual Blemish Removal
While acne can be an embarrassing problem for many people,
improper treatment of an acne breakout can leave an acne scar that will be
visible forever. Most of the time, an acne scar is the result of a person
attempting to get rid of the blemish manually and by squeezing or popping a
zit, a hole can be left in the skin that will not heal. Acne scars also leave
the possibility open for additional infections caused by bacteria infecting
this open spot on the skin.
Acne forms with an excess of sebum results from overactive
sebaceous glands that clogs the pores through which it flows. The root is
deigned to allow this oily substance to make its way to the skin’s surface to
help lubricate the skin. However, it can mix with dead skin cells and clog the
pore, creating blackheads and pimples in most people and cysts under the skin
in severe cases. Manual manipulation of these blemishes can result in the
spreading of the bacteria and the potential to leave an acne scar.
In some cases, what may appear to be an acne scar is not in
reality a scar, rather it may be a red spot where the acne spot has run its
course. These small, red spots known as macules, may appear similar to a scar
but unlike an acne scar, it will disappear completely in about six months.
Additional Colorful Scar Imposters
In other cases, after an acne lesion has healed there may be
some discoloration in the skin’s pigment, which can also be mistaken for an
acne scar. These will typically disappear in about 12 to 18 months, growing
lighter as time passes and while they may appear as such, are not truly scars.
There are two types of real acne scar tissues present
following a severe outbreak of acne. One forms a small hole in the skin ad the
other a small bump in the skin. When the body has any type of infection it
takes the steps deemed necessary to fight it, usually with a rush of white
blood cells. Inflammatory molecules are also dispatched to help fight the
infection and start rebuilding any damage done during the battle.
These fighters can remain at the site of the war for days
and even weeks and sometimes the battles get out of control. Once the fight is
won, however, the damage may be so great that the body’s natural healing
process is slowed and if completely stymied, can leave an acne scar on the
battlefield.
